How to Plant Burst of Bloom Mix

When to Plant Wildflowers

For Spring planting, it is best carried out within a month or so after the final frost of the winter season. It is important to not plant too early; if seeds are installed prior to a late-season frost, they will be lost for the season and will need to be are-seeded.

For Fall planting, make sure you plant the seeds after the first killing frost to eliminate any chance of germination. Planting in the Fall gives you a jump start on Spring blooms

Where to Plant Wildflowers

Though many wildflowers do tolerate some filtered shade, and a few actually thrive in it. The vast majority are definitely sun-lovers. Wildflowers will generally sprout in all but the most difficult conditions. This means that pampering your site with fertilizer or rich sod is not usually necessary.

How to Plant Wildflowers

Clear the area and work the soil as best you can before planting your seeds. Don't panic when some weeds sprout along with the flowers, this will happen when the soil is worked.

We recommend mixing your seeds with sand - 5 parts sand to 1 part seeds. This allows for a more even distribution and also provides a convenient way to mark which portions of the site have been seeded and which have not. For a smaller area, you can hand-broadcast the seeds. For larger areas, we recommend a seed spreader to create a better cast of the seeds.

After the seeds have been sown, lightly compress the seeds into the soil about 1/2" to protect from birds and wind.

How to Care for Wildflowers

Although Wildflowers are pretty easy to take care of, there are some steps to keep it looking beautiful. Regularly weed to ensure your wildflowers are getting the nutrients they need. Water your plants during dry spells. Deadhead blooms that are spend to encourage new growth.

  1. Words cannot express the beauty

I just built a new home in Ohio and could not wait to plant my wildflowers. Unfortunately the weather and the excavator's backuped schedule made me wait until late July to plant. Everything I read, family and friends all said "NO" don't plant until Fall, it's too late. I am very stubborn and hand broadcast these seeds mixed with all perennial over 5,000 sq ft of ground. Then I did my best to mimic spring rains and watered, watered, watered. Within 2 weeks I had visible plants and I had flowers within the month. They came in well and filled the field with a spectacular field of color (wish I could post a pic). I found myself sitting and admiring them more than I should, keeping me from other landscape tasks. I have butterflies, bees and other wildlife everywhere I look. Today I had a flock of bluebirds scouting for spring! I can't wait for next year when I can add paths and benches. Has anyone tossed more seed into their wildlife garden in the fall in anticipation of spring?

  2. Wildflower Mix

Absolutely love this wild flower mix. We got flowers the very first year we planted. Looking forward to see what next year brings. We will be ordering from this company again, thank you for making sure your seed is great quality.

  3. Burst of bloom

I just planted them 3 days ago in a border area and they have already germinated. I was worried that they would wash away in this torrential rain we are getting, but I was happy to see little shoots. Can't wait for flowers!

  4. AWESOME!

I added 10 lbs of the Burst of Bloom Mix to a CRP planting in 2016 using CP25 mix. Planted over 6 acres. First year was amazing with the annuals blooming all summer. Second year looks just as wonderful so far with many perennials growing and blooming. All of the neighbors want to plant it in their fields. The bees and butterflies love the plot. Best money I have ever spent on seeds.

  5. Beautiful flowers

    Unbelievable Very beautiful flowers!

  6. Happy with price and service

I used these seeds in 'seed bombs' that I made out of clay/compost. Rolled in marble sized little balls to be tossed in a meadow where I want wild flowers. So - they haven't even germinated yet but will in the spring.

  7. great product

  9. Seeds

Just planted waiting to see what grows!

  10. 1lb. Wildflowers

I rec'd them quickly, put them in the freezer for a few days...and must have close to 100% sprouting! Great seeds, great company. -M

  11. flowers

Good results so far, all green and growing.

  12. Great product

Planted these last year and had a beautiful wildflower garden first try...great fun... so got more this year for me and some for my daughter/ granddaughter. They are all up already, just a few days!!! Great product and service.
What I learned...must have a full days sun... must have water every day....must be planted densely... must cover with a little soil, then water. I bought a little extra seed and experimented some, at planting time you kick yourself if you did not get enough seed. You must have clear dirt to plant in. I found some fertilizer helps when flowering, kind of gives them a kick when it is needed.
Thank you for a good product and helping me learn a new hobby.

  13. great product

So far so good, only in the ground 7 days and looks like every seed is coming up. Can't wait to see blooms. Thank you.

  14. Fast delivery, good advice

The seeds arrived quickly, with a brochure that had some good planting tips such as mixing sand with the seeds to make scattering them easier. I used an empty plastic Miracle Gro fertilizer bottle without the cap. The handle on the side made shaking the seed and sand mix out very easy. I tried using the cap with its flip down dispenser, but the seeds did not flow through the smallish opening. A lot of the seeds have already sprouted.

  15. Burst your blooms not your wallet

Completely satisfied. Spring blooms were totally different than what happened in the fall. I even cut the whole patch down in the middle of the summer and its sprung right back up into action for an amazing orange blast in the fall. WOW ! ! Five starts is not enough. This was well worth the small investment. And the cool thing is that I am told that it will come back every year. Maybe Ill have to start a new patch somewhere else on my property.

  16. Wish I could Give 6 Stars

I agree with Meg G in Utah. This wildflower mixture is fantastic. I was skeptical because I have purchased mixes in the past that were 5x more money. This one was an instant hit. Tons of annuals this year. Anxious to see what perennials come up next year.

  17. Wish I had room for more!

Frankly, I'm a bit 'angry with the results I got with your 'burst of bloom' along with the ox-eyed daisies and brown -eyed susans I planted last Fall. First of all, I regret I don't have room for more!!! Second, I spend so much time looking at the wonderful display (which is breathtaking!!!) while wondering what's going to pop up next, I find myself neglecting other things I should be doing! The poppies' colors are short of spectacular not to mention the Bachelor Buttons, so therefore you can understand my situation! When friends saw my daisies, not much was said other than "Ahh!!! and "Wow!!" The 'burst of bloom' left everyone speechless! Trust me - they do have a vocabulary that consist of words with multiple syllables! :) I live in Northern Utah, and the seeds were planted just in time last Fall for we had snow the next day followed by record snow all winter! Needless to say, it was impossible to plant anything for quite a while. However, once the snow melted the 'bu
