Blue wildflowers are rare in nature
If blue is your favorite color, you’re not alone. Blue is associated with peace and serenity and is effective in soothing a worried mind. In today’s world, it’s no wonder more and more people are seeking to cultivate tranquility by planting blue flowers.
The rarest color in nature is actually blue—less than 10% of all plants bloom in shades of blue. Plants don’t actually produce blue pigments but use an interesting trick to reflect light and appear the perfect shade of blue to human (and bee) eyes. Even our Blue Wildflower Mixes are nothing more than artfully reflected light, but they are gorgeous all the same.
Choose between two exclusive blue wildflower mixes
Our Singin’ The Blues mix contains nine hand-picked wildflowers in both annual and perennial varieties to ensure beautiful blooms season after season. Suitable for all USDA hardiness zones, this exclusive collection includes a blend of wildflowers from the northern Wild Perennial Lupine to the California Bluebell, Baby Blue Eyes. Regardless of where you live, this refreshing mix of blue wildflowers is sure to please your native pollinator population.
Blue Ribbon is yet another winning blue wildflower mix. Suitable for groundcover, the cutting garden, or both, this blend is rich with classic cut flowers like Delphinium Blue Bell and the whimsical Love-In-A-Mist. These blue beauties are paired with the white Zinnia Polar Bear for contrasting colors. Even the annual varieties are self-seeders, ensuring that this part-perennial mix will return year after year with brilliant blue displays.
Order blue wildflower seeds in bulk
At Eden Brothers, we’ve done our best to streamline this process to make planting your own wildflower meadow as simple as possible. First, decide which of the two blue flower mixes you prefer, and then determine how much seed you need to fill your planting area.
We sell seed mixes by the pound, so use the coverage tab next to the planting instructions tab to determine how much seed you’ll need to fill an area by square footage. Always a little extra seed than you think you’ll use—and if you have leftover seeds, why not gift the seeds to your flower-loving friends?
Planting a blue wildflower meadow is easy
Planting a wildflower meadow is so much easier than seeding a lawn—and there’s no mowing involved! If you can, choose a planting site that gets full sun, but wildflowers will tolerate some shade. Make sure the site drains well but don’t worry about fertilizers or compost, as most wildflowers will thrive in even the poorest soils.
To sow wildflower seeds, simply mix the seed with a few parts of sand and scatter the mixture over your planting area. Gently press the seeds into the ground, taking care not to fully cover the seeds as they need some light to germinate. Lightly water the planting area, and within a week or so your wildflower meadow will begin to grow!
If you dream of a blue wildflower meadow, make your dreams a reality this season.
